This Barbera D'Asti from Cascina Radice is a cracker. As a grape variety, Barbera, grown primarily in Piedmont, north west Italy, produces more medium bodied wines and is not as popular as the regions other main grape variety, Nebbiolo.

If you overlook Barbera though, you are missing out on great wines, and this is one of them.

Aged for 8 months in stainless steel, the nose is full of red & black cherry, blueberry and floral notes of violets. The palate brings this to life, with added notes of  raspberry, ripe blackcurrant & plum.

The finish is extremely long, with hints of earthy liquorice and a gentle spice.

Pair with roast meats such as beef, duck or venison and earthy mushroom or truffle dishes.
