From Bodegas Riojanas, this is a 100% Tempranillo wine from grapes grown in high-altitude vineyards – 904 meters – with old bush-trained vines. 
Following fermentation and maceration in stainless steel, the wine is aged for 4 months in French oak.
This produces a deep cherry red wine with a nose dominated by fruity aromas of blackberries and blueberries with notes of liquorice and spice. 
The palate is smooth and silky,  tannins softened by oak  and leading to a finish of candied red fruit and hints of vanilla and toffee.
A superb Ribera del Duero with a 90-point score from Wine Enthusiast.
 
Pair with roast lamb and cured cheeses.

Bodegas Riojanas is one of Rioja's great century-old wineries, founded in 1890 in Cenicero by two families with a long history of winemaking: the Frías and Artacho families. Today Bodegas Riojanas is still run by the descendants of the founding families, headed by Santiago Frías. The five generations that have managed this superb winery have consolidated and perpetuated its prestige, based on two historic brands: Viña Albina and Monte Real.
